Home-schooled or school-homed?

This article from the Onion is meant to be funny, but it does make some very serious points about the changing role of teachers.

  1. Indeed it does. Teachers are multitasking all day with any number of different scenerios. Every day brings something new and different. Parents should spend some time in the classroom to better understand that we are not just teaching a specific curriculum but a multitude of life skills as well.

  2. Wow, it sure does. Teachers do so many things in a day. There is never one day that is the same. I agree with Jen, parents should spend some time in the classroom to better understand that we are not only teaching standards and curriculum but also life skills and how to build good character in our students to help them prepare for their future.

  3. There are times when you begin to say, "I spend more time with this child than their parents do". I am a believer that parents send you the best they can, but often times students are not where you would hope for them to be socially, academically or emotionally. Our job and responsibility is to accept them and move them forward. I understand this article was using humor to discuss a sensitive subject but lets hope parents take raising their children a little more seriously that this article implies.:)
